How’s the Job

Customer updates for gardeners Your customers are out when you do the garden. Show them anyway.

Most garden work happens while the customer is at work or away, so they come home to a finished lawn and no idea what took the time. A link with a before photo, an after photo and a line about what you found turns a tidy-up they didn’t watch into work they understand — and remember when it’s time to rebook.

A typical job for gardeners, one update at a time

What your customer reads on their link as the work goes on, oldest first. Each line is a photo or a sentence posted from your phone.

  1. 9am

Here. Starting on the front hedge while it’s dry.

  2. 11am

Lawn has moss by the shed — worth scarifying in spring.

  3. 1pm

Borders weeded and cut back, leaves raked off the lawn.

  4. 3pm

Hedges cut back and the green waste is gone.

Is it worth it for a two-hour visit?

It takes less time than the text you would send anyway. Add the job once, take two photos as you go, and text the link when you leave. For regular customers, start the next visit from their last job and their details are filled in for you.

How do before and after photos work?

Take them from your phone as you work and add a caption if it needs one. They appear on the customer’s page newest first, and they can open any one full size to show a neighbour or save it. Photos are usually shrunk on your phone first, so they upload on a weak signal at the bottom of a garden.

Can I flag something for next time?

Post it as an update: the fence post that’s rotting, the tree that wants a surgeon, the bed that floods. It sits on the job page with a photo beside it, which is a better reminder for your customer than a comment at the gate — and a natural lead-in to the next booking.

What if the weather stops me?

Post a line when you call it off: too wet to cut, ground too hard to plant, and when you expect to be back. Your customer reads it on the job page instead of wondering why the lawn is still long, and it is there for anyone else in the house who was expecting you.

Can a family member follow a parent’s garden?

Yes. The link opens in any phone browser with no app and no login, so it can go to the son or daughter who arranged the work, or be forwarded to them. They see the before and after photos from wherever they live, without having to visit or ring the parent to ask whether you came.

What does it cost?

Nothing. How’s the Job is free to use for gardeners, with no card needed to sign up, and always free for your customer, who opens the link in their phone’s browser with no app and no account. It does one thing — show your customer how the job is going — so it sits alongside whatever you use for quotes and invoices. How it compares.
