Tradify and How’s the Job do different jobs, and they work together

Updated

Tradify is software for running a trade business: quotes, scheduling, timesheets, invoices and payments, in one app. How’s the Job does one small thing, for free: it gives your customer a single link where they can watch the job happen, with your photos and updates in order. They don’t compete for the same work, and plenty of tradespeople would sensibly use both.

What Tradify is for

On its UK site, Tradify describes itself as business management software that runs every job from start to finish, all in one app. The features it lists include quoting, estimating, customer enquiries, scheduling, timesheets, subcontractor management, job tracking, invoicing, online payments, and forms and certificates.

In other words, it is the office side of the business: winning the work, booking it in, keeping track of who is where, and getting paid. Its job tracking page says you and your users can add photos, videos and notes to jobs, so the record of the work lives with the job in Tradify.

What How’s the Job is for

How’s the Job covers the stretch between “booked” and “paid”, from the customer’s side. You add the job, post photos and short updates from your phone as the work goes on, and text your customer one link. It does not do quotes, invoices, scheduling or payments, and it isn’t trying to.

The link opens in any phone browser, with no app to install and no account to make. Your customer sees a three-step progress bar in your trade’s words, then every photo and update, newest first, and the page refreshes itself when you post. See an example job page for exactly what they get.

What your customer sees

Tradify’s UK site describes several things that reach the customer: quotes they can accept online, invoices they can pay by card, appointment details you can email to them, and (on its Pro plan) automatic email and text reminders about appointments, quotes and payments. Those are the conversations around money and timing, and they matter.

How’s the Job is about the work itself. A customer at work while you rip out a bathroom gets the photo of the old pipework, the line about the late part, and the moment the job moves to Complete, all on one page they can forward to a partner or a landlord. It is the answer to “any update?” before they have to send it.

Using both together

The simple split is: keep quoting, scheduling and invoicing in Tradify, and use How’s the Job for progress. When a job is booked in Tradify, add it to How’s the Job too (what the job is and the customer’s name, plus their number and the address if you like) and text them the link. From then on, the photos you would have sent one by one go on the job page instead.

Nothing needs connecting. How’s the Job doesn’t read from Tradify or write to it, so there is no integration to set up and nothing to break. The cost of using both is a few taps per job, and the payoff is fewer calls asking how it is going. There are more ideas on what to post in our guide to keeping customers updated.

When you don’t need How’s the Job

If most of your work is short visits, where the customer mainly needs to know when you are coming and what it will cost, Tradify’s own appointment reminders, quotes and invoices may cover everything they ask about. A job page adds little to a one-hour call-out.

It earns its keep on work that runs over days, where much of it ends up hidden behind boards or under a floor, or where the customer isn’t home to watch: refits, rewires, extensions, roofs and garden builds.

What it costs

How’s the Job is free for tradespeople, with no card needed, and always free for your customer. Tradify’s UK pricing page shows paid plans charged per user per month, with no contract, and a 14-day free trial that includes all its features. Check its pricing page for current figures, because plans change.
