How’s the Job

A job link vs WhatsApp photos

Most tradespeople already keep customers updated by sending photos on WhatsApp or by text. It works, and it costs nothing. How’s the Job is also free, and it does the same job differently: instead of messages in a chat, your customer gets one link to a page that shows the whole job — every photo and update in order, with the stage it has reached at the top.

Where the photos end up

In a chat, the photo of the old boiler can end up between a message about the school run and a meme from their brother, and a week later it takes scrolling to find. On a job page, the photos and updates belong to the job and nothing else, each newest first, and your customer can open any photo full size to save it or show someone.

Knowing where the job has got to

A chat has no idea whether the job is booked, underway or finished — the customer has to piece that together from the messages. The job page has a progress bar in your trade’s words (Booked, On site, Complete for most trades; Dropped off, In workshop, Ready to collect for workshops; Booked, In transit, Delivered for removals), and it updates by itself when you move the job along.

Who else can see it

Passing on a chat means forwarding the right messages or adding people to a group. A job link can be forwarded as it is: to a partner at work, a landlord, a parent helping out. Everyone who has the link sees the same up-to-date page, without being added to a group. Your customer’s name and phone number are never shown on it.

Fewer messages to answer

In a chat every update is another message to send, and every message invites a reply. With How’s the Job you post to the job, and the customer’s page picks it up by itself — they check the link when they want news, rather than messaging you for it.

When WhatsApp is enough

For a one-hour call-out with a single photo at the end, a message is fine. A job link earns its keep on work that runs over days, where most of it is out of sight, or where the customer isn’t home to watch: rewires, refits, decorating, garden work, moves and repairs in a workshop.

What it costs

Nothing. There is no app for your customer to install and no account for them to make — the link opens in their phone’s browser. See an example job page for what they get, or get started.
